Beware of Adorable Puppies!
So far this year at least 28 people in WA have lost a combined $51,000 replying to ads of cute puppies seeking a new home. These scam ads
have appeared on trading sites and social media. People are asked to pay upfront for shipping, quarantine and other costs. Needless to say
the puppies never arrive.
Facebook Breach
Facebook has suffered a major security breach with around 50 million users hacked. Hackers targeted the “View As” tool which lets users see
their own profile as it appears to other people. In response to the breach Facebook have fixed the vulnerability and have reset 90 million
user accounts that have used the feature in the last year.
USB Ninja Cable Attack
USB cables containing malware have started to appear. These cables make it appear to the computer that the cable is a keyboard or mouse
which allows the cable to send command to the machine. The cables look identical to normal USB cables and chargers, so beware if you see
one lying around or some-one offers you a cable.
Compromised Business Email Addresses Available for as little as $150
Criminals on the computer underground are prepared to offer their services – to compromise corporate email accounts for as little as
$150 – in order to help a budding BEC fraudster make his or her riches.
In some of the online adverts, the hackers brag that they will be able to deliver the login credentials within seven days

Google+ Shuts Down
Google is shutting down much of its social network, Google+, after user data was left exposed.
It said a bug in its software meant information that people believed was private had been accessible by third parties. Google said up to
500,000 users had been affected.
Google+ was launched in 2011, quickly becoming known as a failed attempt to compete with Facebook.
Free Wi-fi cost Australians $48million so far in 2018
In 2018 alone, Aussies lost about $48 million to financial scammers who targeted popular online shopping destinations and exploited
weaknesses in free Wi-Fi to grab sensitive personal data.
The biggest threat to free Wi-Fi security is the ability for the hacker to position himself between you and the connection point. So
instead of talking directly with the hotspot, you’re sending your information to the hacker, who then relays it on.
